Tiree’s Sustainable Future
In 2024 I was commissioned by Brodie Sim, from the Urras Thiriodh (Tiree Trust) to create visuals for a local climate campaign. This included a poster advertising a community climate event as well as an educational booklet and map of the island. The booklet captures some of the research and community conversations around climate change started in the Science Ceilidh Project. The main aim of the project was to empower residents of Tiree to respond to the climate emergencies they face, with clear solutions.
When researching for the project, I was inspired by looking at aerial images of the island and seeing patterns develop in the arrangement of the crofting land. I was also interested in how vast and unique the biodiversity is on the island. Along with this, knowing that Tiree is the sunniest place in Britain, I wanted to use really bright colours with a naturalness to them. Combining these I had a clear direction for my design and illustrations.
The results all began as hand cut illustrations that I scanned digitally and combined with text, written by Brodie Sim, Rhoda Meek, Leslie Mabon, Naoko Mabon and Augustijn van Gaalen
Below are some images of the progress and results.
